Thank you RacinBob for bringing the Pontiac Tempest to my attention. THIS is a seriously cool looking car.

The styling is neat and all, but the drivetrain is way cooler. It’s a transaxle car with a “rope” driveshaft.

My brother had a ‘63 326 tempest V8 convertible which I found for him in college. It was identical to the below and was an excellent car other than it’s marginal structural rigidity and cowl shake.   It’s demise was floor and rocker panel rust. When the doors failed to start closing properly, it was time to go.

The transmission was a corvair 2 speed. It would have been a good handling car but remember bias ply tires did not turn well and everything was kind of floppy back then. It just kind of mushed like a lightweight Olds 98.

Here’s one that is all yours for $12.6k http://topclassiccarsforsale.com/pontiac/73153-1963-pontiac-lemans-convertible-326-v-8-automatic-trans.html
